Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill: A kind of justice for the cruel

The bill to increase the maximum custodial sentences for animal cruelty from six months to five years has finally passed through parliament. We can only hope that the new sentences will be applied in the courts – and that those pathetic individuals who get their kicks (sometimes literally) by abusing defenceless animals are no longer let off with a fine or suspended sentence. Well done to all those who worked so hard to get this bill through.
